Unique Pretzel Bakery Named to Chamber’s Top 50 List for Seventh Consecutive Year

Annual Award Bestowed Upon Pretzel Baker for Seventh Consecutive Year

For the seventh year in a row, Unique Pretzel Bakery was named one of Reading, Pennsylvania’s Top Businesses.

The list of 50, compiled by the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry, features some of region’s best known employers including Unique Pretzel Bakery, whose six-generation business has been baking pretzels in Reading since the late 1800s.

2016 top 50

Eleven years ago, the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry started the Greater Reading Top Business Awards as a meaningful way to recognize growing companies.

“We are proud to continually earn a spot on this list,” says Unique Pretzel Bakery’s COO, Justin Spannuth. “We’re committed to contributing to the improvement of Reading as our business grows and evolves.”

The Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry and KPMG LLP sponsored the 11th annual Greater Reading Top Businesses, a program that recognizes Greater Reading’s high-performing companies. The 2016 list was published in May and includes manufacturers, services and business-to-business companies with seven on the list situated in the City of Reading.

“Unique is honored to have made the list seven years in a row ,” adds Bill Spannuth, COO. “As one of the oldest companies in Berks County it is a testament to our endurance.”

“We’re committed to contributing to the improvement of Reading as our business grows and evolves.”

The Greater Reading Chamber Top 50 honorees often serves as a snapshot of the economy, recognizing companies that continue to grow and, by extension, contribute to the community. Unique is profiled for growing the family-owned business, one of the oldest on the list.

“We are on a steady path of strong, stable, sustained growth,” remarked Justin Spannuth. “We have been and plan to continue gaining market share nationally and creating jobs locally.”

KPMG, a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services, uses a proprietary formula to determine the rankings. An eligible company must be independent, public or privately held; have revenue of at least $1 million in each of the three most recent fiscal years; be a Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry member; and submit supporting revenue documentation with a nomination form.

The Greater Reading Chamber honored the listed companies that made significant contributions to the strength of the Greater Reading economy at the Chamber’s annual banquet at Santander Arena on June 2.
